The trail passes near 50 foot Ponderosa pines. You can always tell a Ponderosa pine by their smell.
Their bark smells like vanilla or butterscotch. It’s very rare to find Ponderosa pines at
this elevation (4,000 feet). Normally these trees are found at elevations of 6,000 feet and higher.
