Mt. Charleston Fast Facts

Location: 35 miles NW of Las Vegas. Less than one hour from the Strip.

Directions
: Go north on US 95, then west (left) on State Route 157 or 156. Go to map.

Best Season
: Summer.

Visitor Center
: Open 7 days a week during the summer. Hours 9 to 4. Phone: 702-872-5486. Drive 18.4 miles along State Route 157. Located by the Ranger Station on left side of 157.

Fees
: None, however $10.00 per car for parking at Cathedral Rock and Old Mills Campground. $1.00 walk-ins if using the picnic area (hikers not subjected to fee)

Permits
: None needed for day hiking.

Camping
: Kyle Canyon, Fletcher View, Kyle Canyon RV Site, Hilltop, Mahogany Grove, McWilliams, and Dolemite. Reservations: 877-444-6777 Web site: www.reserveusa.com

Elevation range
: 7,000 feet (2133 m) to 11,918 feet (3632 m).

: 316,000 acres

Hikes
: < 1 mile to 22 miles. All difficulties. 50 hikes on this website.

: Yes, but the roads are very narrow.
