Zion National Park is 229 square miles. It consists of two main areas: Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyons. Zion Canyon is the more popular and is home to Angels Landing and the Narrows. All the information on this Web site refers to Zion Canyon. Zion Canyon recently started a shuttle bus system. The shuttle runs every 10 minutes beginning at 5:45 am. The last shuttle leaves at 10:30 pm. (Summer hours- May 18 thru Sept 6.) Only people staying at Zion Lodge can drive cars on the seven mile Scenic Drive. This eliminates parking problems at the trailheads. The Visitor Center has been moved to the east entrance of the park. There's a large parking lot near the Visitor Center. Although many people visit the park during the summer, it does get hot. The average daily temperatures in July and August are 100 degrees and 97 degrees. The best time to visit is early fall. The water is still warm in the Narrows and the temperature is perfect for hiking other trails. Late spring is a good time to visit the park if you are not planning to hike the Narrows. |
