Trivia
As of February 2007, less
than 100 different people have stood at the summit of Rainbow Peak. The
route through Oak Creek Canyon was found in 1997 by Eva, Susan, and me. It
took numerous attempts. We finally ended up on top of a block we did not
want to down climb. I gathered a group of rock climbers and with rope in
hand we descended the block to the saddle. From there we made our way to
the peak. On the return trip, as the others were roping up, I went around
to the north and found the current route. This eliminated the need for a
rope. In April of 2007, Richard N.
and I found the route: Rainbow Peak without the Ledges. It's an
impossible looking
route. The scenery, rock quality, and direct ascent to the summit make this
one of the best routes in Red Rock Canyon. |
